Protocol for students that exhibit a symptom of COVID-19

As cold and flu season is upon us, we wanted to take a moment to remind you to assess your children daily with the COVID screening questions which include a temperature check. This should be done before sending your child to school each morning. Temperature checks are verified upon arrival to school.

If your child has a COVID symptom, keep them home and notify the school nurse.

COVID-19 symptom at school

If a student presents with a symptom related to COVID-19, the student will be sent to a containment room for assessment. The nurse will determine if the student may remain in the building or will be sent home to follow up with a healthcare provider. The student will remain in the containment room until picked up by their parent or guardian. At no time will the student be permitted to go home on the bus. The District will follow this protocol for all students that exhibit a symptom of COVID-19.

Any siblings, or household members, as long as they do not have a symptom of COVID-19, can remain in school for 48 hours. After 48 hours (if COVID-19 test results are not received), the student with symptoms is treated as if they are positive for COVID-19.  The student is placed in isolation for 10 days and siblings/household members must now remain at home for 14 days or until the results of the symptomatic students COVID-19 test results are back.  If test results come back negative, the student and siblings can return to school once the symptomatic student is fever free for 24 hours and symptoms have improved.

** If your child has a chronic condition which causes one of the COVID-19 symptoms, please consider having medical documentation sent to the school in advance (signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA) to avoid sending your child home needlessly. **
