Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) has  published new guidance and requirements for all Erie County grades Pre-K to 12 public, private and charter schools for the start of the 21-22 school year. This new guidance outlines a layered approach to COVID-19 mitigation strategies. You can also view a  summary of the latest ECDOH guidance. Most of the guidance is exactly how we ended the 20-21 school year.

Brief highlights are listed below:

1. Masking is mandated for all indoor activities and on buses--for ALL individuals including vaccinated students and staff. Children will have breaks from masks while seated at their desks, working independently.  Masking is strongly recommended outdoors but will not be required.  Assigned seating is required on buses and in classrooms so that we can help the ECDOH identify close contacts if we have a positive case.

2.  How is a close contact for quarantining defined? Children who are within three feet and adults who are within six feet of a positive individual for fifteen minutes or more over a 24-hour period. ECDOH indicates that the number of days to quarantine will depend on vaccination status and symptoms.

3. Physical distancing will be at least three feet but will be greater where possible. Our planning will reflect this protocol.

4. Daily health screenings and temperature checks remain mandatory and will be a similar procedure as was in place for the 20-21 school year.

5. Ventilation systems will continue to be maximized for health and safety as well as cleaning and disinfecting protocols across the district.

6. COVID-19 screening testing is recommended for students and staff who are not fully vaccinated, through a saliva test overseen by the ECDOH, for any employee or student who would like to participate (with consent).

The Transportation Department and Building Principals will provide additional information in forthcoming communications.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or your child’s building administrator.  Again, thank you for your patience and continued support!
