Dear North Collins Parents, Legal Guardians and Staff:

As you are likely aware through communication from our officials at both the state and county levels, the COVID-19 infection rate continues to be high in the Western New York community. While the North Collins community continues to be designated in the yellow zone, we will continue investigating a plan for on-site testing as per the state guidance and we will communicate that plan to you when we have more information.  As stated in my last correspondencethe District will not begin any testing program without informing parents and staff of the process, and we will not test any student without parental consent. Based on the preliminary results of our parent and staff surveys and our communication with the New York State Department of Health, we do not anticipate that we will have the necessary approvals and tests needed to begin on-site testing on December 7, 2020.

As a result, and to allow families time to properly prepare, our current plan will be to continue our fully remote model of instruction for ALL students through at least the winter break, which runs through January 3, 2021.

If we are informed by state or local officials of a change in our designation, we will reopen as quickly as possible and attempt to provide you timely notice, if/when we are able to return to the HYBRID learning plan.  We are hopeful that there are solutions that support this important public health effort while taking into account our belief that schools have proven to be a very safe place for students and staff alike.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and again for all that you have done to keep our school community safe. Best wishes for a safe, restful, and very healthy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Scott Taylor, Superintendent of Schools

Dear North Collins Dear Parents, Legal Guardians and Staff:

As you are likely aware through communication from our officials at both the state and county levels, the COVID-19 infection rate has risen sharply within the Western New York community over the past couple of weeks.  Today, the Governor designated North Collins as a Yellow Zone starting on Monday, November 23, 2020.

In response to this designation and the increase of cases in our area, we will transition to a fully remote model of instruction for ALL students effective Thursday, November 19, 2020.  Please plan on remote instruction for all students until at the very least Friday, December 4, 2020.  We are hopeful to resume in-person instruction if we continue in the Yellow Zone and are able to comply with the 20% testing requirement.  More information will be forthcoming.

T
he implications and impact to schools for each zone designation (Red, Orange, Yellow), including testing requirements for in-person instruction, are also determined by the Governor and the New York State Department of Health.  When designated as a Yellow Zone, schools can potentially remain open (in-person) but must begin random testing of 20% of students and staff.  We are continuing to plan for on-site testing as per the state guidance and we will communicate that plan to you when we have more information.  The District will not begin any testing program without informing parents and staff of the process, and we will not test any student without parental consent.

Please know that the district values in-person instruction and, if we are able, we will return to the hybrid model soon.  It is also important to know while on remote instruction students will have daily schedules and are expected to attend all of their classes. Principals will be communicating next steps.  Additionally, the free breakfast and lunch program will continue for all students while we are on remote instruction. Information can be found on the district website.

I will continue to keep you informed as we receive more information.  As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Scott Taylor, Superintendent
